SR Telecom Launches WiMAX-Ready Platform
Tara Seals
11/03/2004 At the WiMAX World Conference & Exhibition today in Boston, SR Telecom Inc. launched a broadband wireless access platform that incorporates the key technologies laid out in the as-yet-ratified 802.16e standard for metro wireless Internet, known as WiMAX. The platform is an evolution of SR Telecom’s non-line-of-sight broadband access solution. “Our customers have made it very clear to us that they need a field-proven broadband wireless solution that delivers best-in-class spectral efficiency, [small and medium-sized enterprise]-class service and reliability at price points suitable for residential business cases as well as SME and [small office/home office] applications,” says Claude Gigučre, SR Telecom’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. “Moreover, they want a broadband wireless solution they can immediately deploy that will allow them to migrate their service offerings in step with the evolving WiMAX standards as well as their own schedules.” Although 802.16e has yet to be closed, the solution is future-proof, he says, because the company will offer upgrades to “802.16e WiMAX-certified sectors once they become available.”
