Capgemini: Service Providers Want FCC to Regulate VoIP
11/22/2004
A recent survey by Capgemini U.S. LLC finds service providers increasingly are concerned about VoIP and video over IP regulation. Capgemini canvassed communications executives at the Telestrategies VoIP World conference earlier this month in Virginia, and found that 66.7 percent of respondents think the FCC, not individual states, should regulate VoIP. Meanwhile, 36.1 percent of providers said businesses or consumers will switch to VoIP over the next year to save money, while another 27.8 percent said service bundling and enhanced features and benefits will prompt users to move to VoIP. Capgemini reports 32.6 percent of Telestrategies participants think video over IP will be an important service in the next couple of years. "It is important to investor confidence that the industry deliver the value promised by the coming VoIP revolution in 2005, with more than 80 percent of respondents indicating VoIP is a medium or high priority for their 2005 IT investments," says Kevin Hart, vice president for Capgemini's technology, media and entertainment division.
