SBC Cuts Price of Broadband Service

10/28/2004

SBC Communications Inc. on Thursday cut by $7 the price of high-speed Internet service for new DSL residential customers who commit to a one-year term and subscribe to its unlimited local and long-distance calling plan.

SBC, the second largest local phone company, is offering DSL for $19.95 per month, down from $26.95. Its unlimited calling plan dubbed All Distance costs $48.95 per month.

The new price takes effect Monday, SBC said, and the offer is available to All Distance customers who place new orders for high-speed Internet service before Jan. 31.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of an offer by SBC to provide customers wireless high-speed Internet access for $1.99 per month at such public places as select McDonald’s restaurants and UPS Store locations if they also purchase DSL.

With 4.7 million DSL lines, SBC is the largest high-speed Internet provider among U.S. telephone companies. Overall, Comcast Corp. is the largest broadband provider with approximately 6.5 million customers.
