AT&T Lowers Price of Residential VoIP Service

09/30/2004

Starting tomorrow, AT&T Corp. will sell its residential VoIP service for $5 less than an earlier promotional offer as it prepares for the holiday sales season. The company says it is trying to encourage greater adoption of emerging technologies. AT&T’s CallVantage Service will fall from $34.99 to $29.99 per month, and some offers authorize the company to provide the first month of service free to new subscribers signing up before Jan. 31.

The new pricing will apply to all existing subscribers, and includes unlimited local and long-distance calling in the United States and to Canada.

"Having completed the initial market build-out to support AT&T CallVantage Service, we're now concentrating on expanding our distribution channels through retail and online sales," says Cathy Martine, AT&T senior vice president for Internet telephony. The new pricing fits the company’s expansion strategy, she says, while giving consumers a lower-cost option for phone service.
