Zhone Completes Acquisition of Sorrento Networks

Zhone Technologies Inc., a telecommunications equipment maker, on Thursday announced completing the acquisition of Sorrento Networks Corp., a company supplying metro-optical transport and access gear to communications providers.

"This transaction allows the combined company to address a broader portfolio of service providers," said Mory Ejabat, chairman and CEO of Zhone.

In a press release, Zhone promised to bring customers “advanced new access and transport offerings which provide a bridge between existing copper-based loops and fiber optics.”

Zhone, a public company whose shares trade on the NASDAQ, said the combined company’s customers include more than 300 carriers and cable operators on six continents.
