C&W Cayman Islands Taps Nortel

Cable & Wireless Cayman Islands has selected Nortel Networks to provide equipment for a new network that will deliver voice, data and Internet services over one packet infrastructure. The deal is worth an estimated $17 million over two years and includes Nortel’s Succession VoIP and Multimedia Communications portfolios as well as professional services.

The Succession Media Gateway 9000 is designed to smoothly transition telephony services onto a packet infrastructure. The Nortel Networks Multimedia Communication Server 5200, which is also part of the deal, helps service providers deliver a multimedia and collaboration services that can be integrated with existing telephone services. Cable & Wireless also plans to use the Succession Communication Server 2000-Compact superclass softswitches, and products from the Nortel Networks Passport and Nortel Networks OPTera portfolios.

With a VoIP network, customers in the Cayman Islands will be able to consolidate services, such as e-mail, mobile, home and work phones onto one number or address.
