SBC Unveils New Small Biz Calling Package in California
Paula Bernier
06/20/2003 SBC Communications today launches a small business bundle in California called “Business Unlimited,” which includes unlimited local and long distance service and calling features for $58.99 on a single monthly bill. Additional lines are available through the package for $43.99. Prior to this product introduction, unlimited local calling had not been available in California, which Karolyn Fritz, executive director or voice services, data and E-services at SBC describes as a very competitive market. After three months offering long distance in California, SBC has garnered 10 percent market share for the service. The new package will be available in Nevada June 23 and elsewhere in the southwest later this summer. SBC also plans to deliver the package in the future in the midwest following 271 long-distance approval; it filed its FCC application for Michigan yesterday. Calling features included in the package are call waiting, call forwarding, three-way calling and remote access to call forwarding, and WirePro, an inline wire repair service. Customers can also customize their own packages through the program. SBC Long Distance is providing California small businesses with a $20-per-month unlimited direct-dialed long distance calling plan (in-state and state-to-state calls) with the purchase of a qualifying package. As early as next week, SBC Long Distance plans to begin offering its $20 Business Unlimited Long Distance plan to Nevada business customers that purchase Centrex service. California small businesses can also choose to order an unlimited SBC local calling plan, which can be combined with any SBC Long Distance plan and SBC call management features. DSL can also be wrapped into the Connections bundle for $29.95 a month.
