Taqua Wins NCIC Business

Longview, Texas-based NCIC Operator Services, which sells services worldwide, has chosen Taqua's OCX next-generation Class 5 switches will replace a manufacturer discontinued Cisco VCO4K switch, formerly marketed by Summa Four. The vale of the deal was not disclosed.

NCIC handles more than two million inbound calls per month, making it the largest privately owned operator service company in the United States. NCIC sells its services in 70 countries worldwide.

"Key factors in NCIC's decision to select the OCX included the extensive Class 5 and custom calling features, compact footprint, compelling economics and clear migration path to next-generation packet technologies. However, it was equally important for NCIC to partner with a viable next-generation Class 5 switch vendor. With a solid base of customers and switches in-service, Taqua was our only logical choice to serve our growing Class 5 switching requirements in the years to come," said Bill Pope, president of NCIC. "In addition, after a recent visit to Taqua's headquarters, I'm convinced that the company has assembled the finest training and technical support organizations in the industry."

Todd Daniels, vice president of sales at Taqua, says NCIC is indicative of a trend with OCX deployments - service providers capping or replacing legacy switching equipment for next-generation voice switching platforms. "We have been capping and replacing traditional legacy switches from Siemens, Nortel, Harris and Mitel throughout fiscal 2002 - specifically in the RLEC market segmant, although now we are beginning to see a strong interest level in the programmable switch market, most notably replacing Cisco Summa Four and Excel ESX switches," he says.

Taqua's OCX is a next-generation Class 5 switch that incorporates softswitch, signaling and media gateway functionality on a single-card design. The OCX incorporates CLASS and custom calling features, as well as support for LNP, AIN, AMA, GR-303, SS7, PRI, CAS, E911 and CALEA.
