SBC Yahoo! DSL Launched

09/13/2002

SBC Communications Inc. and Yahoo! Inc. introduced digital subscriber line services Friday aimed to bolster broadband adoption across 13 states.

The broadband services ranging in price from $42.95 per month to $59.95 per month will be available to more than 26 million customer locations across the Bell’s 13-state region.

Yahoo! and SBC unveiled SBC Yahoo! Dial earlier this year. SBC serves more than 1.7 million DSL lines through its Internet companies.

“We think the news is a potentially substantial data point in the Internet landscape because it showcases a leading RBOC with a strong footprint in its region partnering with a leading content provider to spur broadband deployment,” Kaufman Bros. analysts said Friday in morning research notes.

SBC and Yahoo! are offering three separate plans.

SBC Yahoo! DSL Deluxe includes download speeds of up to 768kbos to 1.5mbps and upstream speeds of up to 256kbps. Regularly available for $59.95 per month, customers who sign up for a year will receive a free modem and free activation and be charged $39.95 per month for the first six months.

SBC Yahoo! Standard Plus includes download rates of up to 384 kbps to 1.5mbps and upstream speeds of up to 128kbps. Regularly available for $49.95 per month, customers who sign up for a year also will receive the freebees as well as a discount: a $29.95 rate per month for the first six months.

SBC Yahoo! DSL Basic includes download speeds of up to 384kbps and upstream speeds of up to 128kbps. Customers who sign up for a year will pay $29.95 per month for the first six months, and $42.95 thereafter. They also will receive a free modem and free installation.
