WorldCom Inc. has commercially launched Private Label DSL services for U.S businesses and ISPs. National broadband content and access packager Speakeasy Inc. and ClearPath Networks Inc., a VPN service company for small to mid-size businesses, are among WorldCom's first Private Label DSL customers.

Private Label DSL gives customers bulk access to WorldCom's nationwide, facilities-based DSL network and global IP network, while allowing each customer to brand the service as its own. It is available in 31 major metropolitan markets, through 709 central offices.

“With WorldCom's Private Label DSL solution, companies can quickly and easily expand their broadband service offerings,” says Frank Grillo, senior vice president of business marketing for WorldCom. “WorldCom's Private Label DSL customers immediately benefit from WorldCom's nationwide DSL footprint, an end-to-end DSL solution and direct connections to the world's most expansive global IP network.”

Speakeasy, which has bundled high-speed local access with online gaming, stock information and other content and applications for ‘consumer verticals’ and remote IT system administrators since 1999, will leverage its new relationship with WorldCom to expand the company's DSL network, creating one of the largest and deepest nationwide service areas in the country. Through WorldCom's DSL network, Speakeasy will also be able to offer its residential customers 1.5mbps/768kbps service levels. In addition to Speakeasy's premium connectivity, customers benefit from an array of differentiated and personalized features, including security, privacy, entertainment and professional services.

“The WorldCom relationship builds on Speakeasy's mission to bring an affordable, compelling Internet experience to residential and business users,” says Michael Apgar, Speakeasy's CEO. “We are building a strong foundation of strategic partnerships for our existing markets as we continue to explore additional broadband opportunities.”

ClearPath has been able to utilize WorldCom's Private Label DSL services to ensure cost effective connections to ClearPath's nationwide fiber optic network, which combines ATM with performance-enhancing capabilities of MPLS technology. The service is designed to enable ClearPath customers to distribute applications over its iVPN, a line of network-based virtual private network services targeting the small and mid-size business market.
