Meriton Partners with ExceLight, Vitesse
11/20/2001
Meriton Networks Inc. (www.meriton.com) officially completed its name change from edgeflow Inc., and announced partnerships with ExceLight Communications Inc. (www.excelight.com) and Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (www.vitesse.com). In the deal with ExceLight, Meriton becomes a strategic, volume customer for ExceLight’s advanced Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) products and other components. Meriton believes that ExceLight’s components will enable it to develop products with unprecendented cost and space savings for carriers. Meriton’s OADX product allows telecom carriers to integrate optical switching and transmission into a single networking element that supports CWDM, dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) and baseband interfaces. “Each company is focused on providing innovative solutions to many common optical networking challenges. Teaming together in a long-term, strategic relationship makes good sense, especially for carrier customers looking to leverage the combined value of both companies,” Scott Williams, an industry analyst with TeleChoice Inc. (www.telechoice.com), said in a statement. In its alliance with Vitesse, Meriton becomes an early adopter of Vitesse’s high-speed asynchronous switch fabric and clock and data recovery (CDR) devices. The companies are collaborating to build a product that offers transparency with all the networking benefits of an electrical fabric for wavelength services. Meriton also revealed that its OADX, an advanced optical add/drop switch, is being used in metro core networks.
