AT&T Debuts Web Meeting Service
08/17/2000
AT&T Corp. (www.att.com) is combining teleconferencing and collaboration tools to launch its new Web Meeting Service. AT&T is adding data-sharing over the Internet to its TeleConference Services so users can simultaneously deliver slide shows or other computer-based applications to all participants. The Web Meeting Service allows users to host meetings in two modes: presentation-only or collaboration. In the "presentation only" format, the host can conduct a "one-to-many" teleconference, where participants have access to presentations stored on the host's computer. In the collaborative mode, the host and participants are able to make instant revisions to documents or presentations. Other features of the Web Meeting Service include file transfer, desktop sharing control, whiteboarding functions, e-mail chat and a polling function that allows for taking instant opinions and provides tabulated results. AT&T Web Meeting Service is enabled by technology from WebEx Communications Inc. (www.webex.com), a provider of infrastructure for web-based meetings.
