Broadwing Participates In Microsoft App Pilot

05/05/2000 A subsidiary Broadwing Inc. (www.broadwing.com) will participate in a pilot application hosting program sponsored by Microsoft Corp. (www.microsoft.com). Over the company's 16,800-mile national IP network, the Broadwing Managed Hosting business unit will deliver hosted applications to small and mid-sized businesses in the U.S. under Microsoft's Commercial Licensing program. "By working closely with Microsoft, and leveraging the power of our IP network, we are able to offer turn-key office productivity software solutions to our customers. We believe software application services are the ideal solutions for new and existing businesses that wish to preserve capital and reduce the cost of ongoing IT operations," Bill Dyer, president and general manager of Broadwing Managed Hosting, said in a statement. Among the Microsoft applications Broadwing will offer are: Exchange, Office 2000, Windows NT 4.0 Server, Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition, Windows 2000 Server Terminal Services, SQL Server, Proxy Server, SNA Server, Systems Management Server and Site Server. Business customers will be able to access the applications at speeds from 1.544 mbps to 622 mbps.
