BSG Improving Life on the Inside
Tim McElligott
08/05/2008 Continued from page 1 Milton Volz, president of American Roaming Network, which has an inmate provider business, said his company sees thousands of collect-call requests to wireless numbers get blocked every month. “BSG is supporting a need that has been overlooked by the wireless industry for years,” he said. One large customer of BSG with a half-million calls over two days had BSG examine that traffic. Thirty-eight percent of calls failed and 59 percent of those calls were attempts to a wireless phone. “I checked. They were all working numbers,” Cockrell said. “So there is a real need for operators to address this. And they can do it with a simple SMS and IVR solution like ours.” Cockrell said service providers should adjust their revenue share a little to make the solution more palatable to inmate providers. Today, they take approximately 40 to 45 percent of the revenue. “This is still a great revenue opportunity for them even at a smaller revenue share, because we are looking at over 3 million call attempts per month,” she said.
