Sprint’s Need for Speed
05/01/2006
Sprint Nextel Corp. will bring another meg of speed to mobile downloads and kick DSL to the curb with greater upload speeds when it becomes the first to implement EV-DO Revision A in the first quarter of 2007. That’s the plan, anyway. The carrier announced planned coverage for about 214 million people with the 10-times-faster, super 3G upgrade. New Rev. A-compatible cards will hit the market this fall in advance of the turn-up. Meanwhile, the carrier aggressively is expanding the footprint of the 3G Sprint Power Vision network, which covers 150 million people with mobile broadband data services. By the end of the year, the company expects to reach an estimated 190 million people nationwide and in Puerto Rico, topping out at 220 million by late 2007.
