AT&T CEO Portends 3G for iPhone Next Year
11/30/2007
AT&T Inc. CEO Randall Stephenson addressed pressure to upgrade from 2.5G to 3G today. At a meeting of the Churchill Club in Santa Clara, Calif., he said he didn't know how much more a 3G phone would cost consumers, but one can be sure it will cost AT&T plenty to upgrade. However, the expected returns for faster speeds and more dynamic services will bring ROI, said Stephenson.
Meanwhile, Apple plans to sell 10 million iPhones worldwide in 2008, which would give Apple 1 percent of the mobile-phone market. Apple had sold 1.4 million handsets through the end of September.
