10/06/2008
ITC^DeltaCom Inc., a provider of integrated communications services to customers in the southeastern U.S., today announced a $20 million network upgrade initiative to begin this year and be completed in 2009. The upgrade will involve the deployment of additional Infinera Corp. (INFN) DTN optical networking systems in key markets across North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Georgia to enable high capacity DWDM services with speeds up to 10 gbps, according to the carrier. SONET equipment will also be added to deliver service capabilities ranging from DS-3 to OC-192. The operator will also build out an unspecified number of metro networks, which it says will bring on-net services closer to its customer base. DeltaCom's wholesale division, Interstate FiberNet, serves carrier customers with high bandwidth point-to-point services. The company’s enterprise and retail divisions provide a full portfolio of services to large enterprises, SMBs, and government entities. ITC^DeltaCom has a fiber-optic network spanning approximately 15,800 route miles, including more than 11,800 route miles of owned fiber, and offers a suite of voice and data communications services, including local, long distance, broadband data communications, Internet connectivity, and customer premise equipment to end-user customers in its eight-state region.
