Overture Networks is pumping up the volume, but not the price per port, with a new Carrier Ethernet aggregation solution.
The new ISG 6000 sits at the central office or a point of presence to do first-level aggregation.
Chip Redden, who’s in charge of marketing at Overture, noted that before introducing the ISG 6000 this week, the company had an existing aggregation product. But he said while that solution, which sells for around $15,000, is good for service providers that want to break into the Ethernet services market without a large investment, many service providers are having so much success with Carrier Ethernet that they’re having to stack these boxes to address customer demand. That group of service providers, he said, asked Overture to add to its portfolio a larger aggregation solution at the low end between $15,000 and $75,000. So the ISG 6000, which includes a channelized OC3 card supporting up to 300 users, was born.
The new product can handle Carrier Ethernet, managed IP services and TDM private line.
