IBM Unveils Cloud for Big Business, Government

06/15/2009

IBM (IBM) has unveiled a series of products and services to help its government and corporate customers move toward cloud computing.

With its vast data storage capabilities, cloud computing is expected to be a real winner in the corporate world. It could put a serious dent in costs. So far, big business and government have been hesitant to join the cloud computing craze, avoiding Amazon and Google offerings due to concerns over security, reliability and regulations.

The New York Times reports that IBM will tailor its cloud offerings for corporate and government customers. Specific chores will be assigned to the hardware and software in the Big Blue’s “cloud.”

IBM’s first cloud products and services, introduced today, include streamlining technology that corporate software testers and developers use. Another revolves around virtual desktops, where PC software is run on remote servers and “piped” to desktop computers.
